JOB CONTEXT: HI is running a project to improve the services provided for children with cerebral palsy and multiple disabilities. In Gaza early detection system is not yet organized in systemic way. Even if disturbed development is recognized by the field paediatricians, the referral of the baby to the rehabilitation services is often delayed by the lack of available specialized services. Services are lacking equipment and staff ready to provide high quality rehabilitation to the babies at risk and children with cerebral palsy. They need refreshment of their basic knowledge and skills about the rehabilitation in the earliest age. Paediatricians also need refreshment on how to supervise early development of children’s psychomotor skills and how to cooperate with rehabilitation teams. All above mentioned problems are seriously hindering rehabilitation of children with cerebral palsy as well. One service provider is specialized in providing services to children with cerebral palsy in Gaza strip. As a result of described situation many children with cerebral palsy are staying out of needed rehabilitation, education and proper integration in the lives of their families and the community.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Challenges and goals: At the end of the training, the participants (paediatricians, OTs, PTs, speech therapists and psychologists) will be able to manage better the assessment-planning-implementation-evaluation-reassessment cycle in care of babies born at risk, newborns with impairments and children with cerebral palsy/multiple disabilities.

This implies professional development in theoretical knowledge and skills concerning:

1) Early detection of the signs of psychomotor development disturbances and cerebral palsy/multiple disabilities, assessment and treatment of cerebral palsy and associated disorders, 2) Possible methods of the support to the family during the early treatment of the babies of risk and the children with cerebral palsy and multiple disabilities, 3) Capacity to work in good complementarities with other health and social sector professionals on a multidisciplinary basis along the assessment-planning-implementation-evaluation-reassessment cycle in care of babies and children with developmental problems and cerebral palsy.

Activities: o Assessment of the training needs of the participants (paediatricians, OTs, PTs, Psychologists, Speech therapists) with the support of three local training consultants o Designing and conducting, in cooperation with the support of three local training consultants, a detailed training program, including: o the theoretical part of the course for the specific area, which should include teaching units with the specified timeframe, training materials prepared in advance for the purpose of the timely translation; o the practical part of the course, which should include practical examples, demonstration, analysis of the case studies prepared under the supervision of the three local training consultants selected from the current local situation, discussion with the participation of the testimonies by parents or families and the patients themselves.

CANDIDATE PROFILE: Mandatory: o A relevant University Degree in medicine or public health (paediatrician, neurologist, physiatrist, orthopaedist , specialist in medicine psychology etc) o Respectable working experience; minimum 10 years of working experience, o Experience to work in multidisciplinary teams and working groups effectively, o Academic experience desirable, o Experience within the field of medical education is desirable, o Good communication, presentation skills, o Computer literacy in MS applications, would be an advantage

REQUIRED LANGUAGE SKILLS: o Very good level of written and spoken English. o Arabic language proficiency

JOB ENVIRONMENT: This mission is open to a single departure only. You will be based in Gaza. You will share an accommodation with 2 to 3 other expatriates (House with all modern conveniences in + sometimes you will face electricity cut for few hours during the day and mineral water) Living conditions in Gaza are difficult somehow; security situation is unstable, but the situation nowadays calm. The overall situation in Gaza is very fluctuant and unpredictable

CONDITIONS: Consultant fees: 250 Euro /day 15 days ( 10 training days and 5 preparatory days)
